The UK can’t reach 100% renewables. Yet.

Every year the UK wastes around 10 TWh of renewable power, enough to run 3.7 million homes all year, because there’s nowhere to put it.

But despite this surplus, when the sun isn’t shining and the wind isn’t blowing we still have to turn to fossil fuels to make up the gap.

morning evening night demand renewables

Britain doesn’t have an energy problem. It has a storage problem.

Kilowatt Club fixes it street by street:

  • Member-owned home batteries, coordinated by software.
  • Twenty million UK homes have a garage or a suitable outside wall.
  • Together they’d be Britain’s largest power station, on wires that already exist.

How it works

Charge cheap. Power the peak.

On half-hourly pricing, electricity is cheap overnight and expensive every evening. The brain, a Raspberry Pi wired to your inverter, plans every half hour against tomorrow’s prices: charge when power is cheap and green, run the house through the breakfast and dinner peaks.

You simply stop buying expensive electricity. Nothing to remember, nothing to press. Full methodology →

With the founding grant

First 25 homes get £1,000 from the club to help them get started

~£2,700

The founding grant: the first 25 homes get £1,000 off and the brain free. In return the club coordinates your battery in grid-services markets. The grant vests over your first five years, unwinds pro-rata if you leave early, and transfers with the house if you move. Want a bigger battery, or already own one? Just ask. To join you’ll need to own a house and be happy on an Octopus half-hourly tariff.

Our model

No membership fees. Ever.

We’re paid by the grid, not by our members. The whole model, plainly:

Your savings are yours

The optimiser cuts a typical bill by ~39%. No subscription, no cut, no catch.

We earn from grid services

A few times a month, coordinated fleets are paid to support the grid. That’s our business model.

The grant is your share, paid upfront

£1,000 off on day one, vesting over five years while the club coordinates your battery.

You own everything

Battery, inverter and brain, all in your name. The kit keeps working without us.

Mission first. A renewable Britain needs home storage faster than any one company will deliver. If you don’t join us, get a battery anyway: Intelligent Octopus Flux, Axle Energy, GivEnergy and Sunsave all do good work.
